Jazz show
Zoë Jorgenson and Janelle Gill
Palisades Hub in Washington, The Palisades.
About
Bassist Zoe Jorgenson performs a combination of jazz standards and original compositions. Jorgenson is heavily influenced by the sounds of jazz, classical, indie and folk music, blending elements of each genre to produce deeply emotive and meditative compositions. Janelle Gill is a highly emotive pianist whose lush playing embodies the impressionistic, colorful harmonies of modern jazz as well as the lyrical quality of older masters like Keith Jarrett and Mary Lou Williams. Her own work also takes on the classical contours in parts of Jarrett and Williams’ oeuvre, aiming for higher complexities in harmony and form. The two lead a trio, also featuring guitarist Parker Spiers, as part of a series of benefit concerts to celebrate WPFW’s 50th anniversary.
