Nick Bhalla’s Big Blue Moon with special guest the Race Hoglund Quintet Nick Bhalla has been a working pianist in the Twin Cities for over a decade, consistently performing at the metro’s finest venues as a bandleader, sideman, and solo pianist. Nick’s trio Big Blue Moon features modern original compositions, interpretations of classic time-honored standards, and creative approaches to 70s nostalgia such as Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake. Born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota, Race Hoglund (b. 1996) is an in demand saxophonist and educator based in Minneapolis. He has studied with several world renowned jazz musicians such as Patrick Bartley, Bob Reynolds, Adam Larson, and Steve Kortyka. Aside from performing, Race has a strong passion for education and has taught Band and Jazz Band at Fargo South High School and was an adjunct saxophone instructor at Concordia College. During his summers, Race has studied music in Italy, Finland, and New York City and has also performed on several cruise ships around the world with Royal Caribbean. Race has worked and performed with several notable musicians such as Don Braden, Peter Erskine, Terell Stafford, Danny Seraphine, Jacob Mann, Dave Pollack, Bernie Dresel, and many more.
