Als eine der wenigen Bands hatten sie schon zweimal die Ehre, den legendären Village Vanguard in NYC mit einer einwöchigen Residency zu bespielen. Stewart, Grenadier und Smith sind jeder für sich wegweisende Musiker, die auf beeindruckende Solo- wie auch Sidemankarrieren zurückblicken können, unzählige Jazzstudierende weltweit inspirieren und auch in dieser Formation einmal mehr Jazzgenuss allererster Güte präsentieren! Der Schlagzeuger und Komponist Bill Stewart ist seit über 30 Jahren einer der gefragtesten Schlagzeuger im Jazz. Wie Nate Chinen in der New York Times schrieb, ist seine wahre Spezialität, „eine gute Band auf unerklärliche Weise besser klingen zu lassen“. Als Sideman hat er mit John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Maceo Parker und vielen anderen gespielt. Seit über drei Jahrzehnten spielt er außerdem im gefeierten Trio mit Larry Goldings und Peter Bernstein . Auch unter eigenem Namen ist Stewart seit vielen Jahren aktiv: Blue Note Records veröffentlichte seine Aufnahmen „Telepathy“ (1997) und „Snide Remarks“ (1995), von denen letztere von der New York Times zu einer der zehn besten Aufnahmen des Jahres 1995 gewählt wurde. Um 2015 realisierte er Aufnahmen und Tourneen im Trio mit Kevin Hays und Larry Grenadier. Diese früheren Aufnahmen wurden mit Piano und Keyboards eingespielt und betonten ungewöhnliche, farbenfrohe Harmonien. „Band Menu“ ist eine Abkehr von diesem Ansatz hin zu einem sparsameren, melodischeren Konzept ohne Akkordinstrument.
