As the jazz world approaches the centennial of John Coltrane’s birth, the Matthew Hess Quartet celebrates the life and legacy of one of the genre’s most influential artists. Through performances of Coltrane’s compositions, the quartet honors his groundbreaking artistry, expressive improvisation, and lasting impact on jazz. Matthew Hess : Tenor Saxophone Harry Scott : Piano Callum Schultz : Bass Thomas Gott : Drums Matthew Hess , 18, is a saxophonist based in Minneapolis, MN. Having studied with Twin Cities jazz educators Scott Johnson, Jack Breen, and Kevin Washington, Matthew has performed at venues across the city including the Dakota, Icehouse, MetroNOME, Jazz Central Studios, and Crooners Supper Club. He is currently a student studying jazz at Michigan State University. Harry Scott is a pianist and composer based in Minneapolis and Chicago. Just 19, he has performed with his Trio, Quintet, and solo across countless venues in the areas, including The Dakota and Berlin. He is influenced by pianists by the likes of Sullivan Fortner
