Among the most dynamic and virtuosic drummers in jazz, the SFJAZZ Collective’s Kendrick Scott returns following the 2025 west coast premiere of his multimedia piece Unearthed to lead an explosive all-star quintet in the Joe Henderson Lab featuring trumpeter Marquis Hill , saxophonist Walter Smith III , Gerald Clayton , and Joe Sanders . Born of the connections made by Scott as a world-class bandleader and sideman, this band represents a rare assemblage of some of the finest jazz musicians on earth. Named one of the “Five Drummers Whose Time Is Now” by The New York Times , the Houston-raised Scott is a prodigious musician, composer and bandleader who joined the Collective in 2021 and has collaborated with SFJAZZ Executive Artistic Director Terence Blanchard, guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, vocalists Kurt Elling and Gretchen Parlato, saxophonists Charles Lloyd and Joshua Redman, and the Blue Note All-Stars, among others. He’s released six superb albums. including three with his ongoing Oracle project, exploring his own spiritually charged compositions. His latest is Corridors , a 2023 session for Blue Note featuring Smith and bassist Reuben Rogers. Do not miss this chance to see such a remarkable assemblage of modern masters in the intimate space of Joe Henderson Lab.
