About

A beloved figure in the Irish music scene, Belfast-born trumpeter Linley Hamilton has had a distinguished career as a recording artist, educator, broadcaster and music venue owner! Holding a Masters and PhD in jazz performance, he lectured at Ulster University for many years while performing and recording with artists such as Van Morrison, Jacqui Dankworth and the Commitments as well as releasing six of his own albums. Then, in 2019, Linley and his wife opened “Magy’s Farm”, a destination music venue that has hosted the Larry Goldings Trio, Ari Hoenig, Enemy, Eddie Henderson, Joe Webb & many more. To top it off, Linley was awarded an MBE in 2024. For this show, the programme will feature material from Linley’s albums with his quintet “Ginger Hollow” and “For the Record”, accompanied by Daniel Newberry tenor sax and the Eddie Gripper Trio Eddie Gripper piano, Clem Saynor double bass & Patrick Barrett Donlon drums. Eddie, described by Jazzwise as having ““already garnered comparisons with the greats” launched his second record “Americana” at the Club earlier this year and this combination of talents promises to deliver a delightful night of melodic and soulful jazz. “The music pulses with energy and dynamism…it left me wishing I could see this superb band live” Jazz Views; “…enjoyable, beautifully performed album from a quintet led by Irish trumpeter Linley Hamilton” UK Jazz News
