The award-winning pianist/singer Jonathan Gee is a long established and respected bandleader and sought-after sideman who includes work with the likes of Joe Lovano, Mark Murphy, Benny Golson and Claire Martin. With Tony Kofi, he co-founded the Monk Liberation Front, whose performances of the complete Thelonious Monk catalogue are the stuff of legend, while his more recent collaborations with leading musicians from France, Finland & Italy have proven to be equally inspired and delightful. And if that weren’t enough, he packed out Dizzy’s at Lincoln Center with his New York-based trio. Tonight’s show however celebrates Jon’s latest recording, “Livorto”, the 12th of his career. Along with new compositions from the album, there will be a taste of Jonathan’s Monk, Beatles and Shorter specialties and a couple of vocal numbers as well. Joined by special guests, Denys Baptiste on tenor sax (McCoy Tyner, Incognito, Courtney Pine), and Adam Glasser (Hugh Masekela, Sting, Joe Zawinul & Abdullah Ibrahim) harmonica along with his UK trio, Mikele Montolli bass and Tristan Maillot drums we can’t wait to hear this superb, world-class lineup as they debut this exciting new set.
