About

PLS NOTE DOORS OPEN AT 5.30PM FOR A 6PM SHOWTIME (SHOW DURATION IS 6PM-8PM) The Paris Cat Big Band is back to pay tribute to Thad Jones! The Music of Thad Jones Thad Jones formed the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra with drummer Mel Lewis in 1965. The band played in its original incarnation for 12 years until Jones moved to Copenhagen and in that time the band (and Jones’) legacy was cemented. Jones’ writing influenced a huge range of later composers including Bob Brookmeyer, Jim McNeely, Bob Mintzer and Maria Schneider and the band maintained a Monday night residency at the Village Vanguard for over 5 decades. Jones’ music is pure joy for both performer and listener, and we warmly invite you to join us for this very special event. The Paris Cat Big Band features some of Melbourne's finest musicians paying homage to the great composers and musicians of jazz history and is under the direction of local arranger Toshi Clinch.
