Mit ihrem Quartett teilen sie prägnante Melodien, tiefe Grooves sowie raffinierten Blues und Soul mit dem vielleicht wichtigsten Teil der Band: dem Publikum. Ihr Repertoire verbindet Eigenkompositionen und neu interpretierte Jazzstandards mit Musik von Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk, Earth, Wind & Fire und weiteren Künstlern. Prins und Sholar verbindet eine gemeinsame Haltung zu Musik und Menschlichkeit. Mehr als zehn Jahre nach ihrem letzten gemeinsamen Auftritt in Berlin markiert dieses Konzert einen Neubeginn ihres musikalischen Dialogs und ein lang erwartetes Wiedersehen. Zu erwarten sind Überraschungen, intensive Interaktion und ein breites Spektrum an Emotionen von einer Formation, deren Mitglieder unmittelbar aufeinander reagieren. KELVIN SHOLAR Kelvin Sholar stammt aus einer Musikerfamilie mit mehreren Generationen in Detroit, Michigan . Bereits als Kind sang er, mit sechzehn Jahren begann er Klavierunterricht zu nehmen. Wenig später gewann er den ersten Preis beim Michigan Bach Festival mit Werken aus J. S. Bachs Wohltemperiertem Klavier . Seitdem arbeitete Sholar weltweit mit Jazzgrößen wie Lenny White, Wallace Roney, Ron Carter, Vanessa Rubin, Patrice Rushen, Roy Hargrove, Biréli Lagrène, Meshell Ndegeocello, Jean-Paul Bourelly, Jeff „Tain“ Watts und Greg Osby zusammen. Auch über den Jazz hinaus reicht die Liste seiner Kollaborationen von Stevie Wonder über Q-Tip und Carl Craig bis Nigel Kennedy . Sholar spielt Jazz, Blues, Pop und klassische Musik in Theatern, Konzertsälen, Clubs und auf Festivals weltweit. Darüber hinaus unterrichtet er Jazzpiano, englisches Sprachtraining für internationale Sängerinnen und Sänger sowie Electronic Jazz an der Franz Liszt Weimar und war in Zeitungen, Fernsehen, Radio, Podcasts und Film vertreten, unter anderem im Zusammenhang mit Spike Lee . JEANFRANÇOIS PRINS Der belgische Gitarrist Jeanfrançois Prins ist ein melodischer Geschichtenerzähler. Viele Jahre in New York City und Berlin beheimatet, spielte er in Europa, Nord- und Südamerika sowie Asien mit zahlreichen Größen des Jazz, darunter Lee Konitz, Toots Thielemans, Kenny Wheeler, Randy Brecker, Bill Evans, Kirk Lightsey, Eddie Gomez, Benny Golson, Gary Bartz, Fred Hersch, Billy Hart und Quincy Jones . Tief in der gesamten Jazztradition von Swing bis Avantgarde verwurzelt, schöpft Prins zugleich aus einem außergewöhnlich breiten musikalischen Vokabular, das von französischem Chanson und Bolero über brasilianische Musik und zeitgenössische Klassik bis hin zu R&B und Soul reicht. J MOOD J Mood was founded in Berlin by Jeanfrançois Prins and Kelvin Sholar more than a decade ago. With their quartet, they share a collection of strong melodies, deep grooves, sophisticated blues and soul with the other members of the band: the audience. Their repertoire combines original compositions and reimagined jazz standards with music by Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk, Earth, Wind & Fire , and others. Prins and Sholar share many values when it comes to music and humanity. More than ten years after their last performance together in Berlin , this concert marks a new beginning for their musical dialogue and a long-awaited reunion. KELVIN SHOLAR Kelvin Sholar comes from a multi-generational family of musicians in Detroit, Michigan . He began singing as a child and started piano lessons at the age of sixteen. Soon afterwards, he won first prize at the Michigan Bach Festival , performing from J. S. Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier . Since then, Sholar has worked around the world with jazz greats including Lenny White, Wallace Roney, Ron Carter, Vanessa Rubin, Patrice Rushen, Roy Hargrove, Biréli Lagrène, Meshell Ndegeocello, Jean-Paul Bourelly, Jeff “Tain” Watts, and Greg Osby , among many others. His collaborations beyond jazz include Stevie Wonder, Q-Tip, Carl Craig, and Nigel Kennedy . Sholar performs jazz, blues, pop, and classical music in theaters, concert halls, clubs, and festivals worldwide. He also teaches jazz piano, English speaker training for foreign vocalists, and electronic jazz at Franz Liszt Weimar , and has appeared in newspapers, television, radio, podcasts, and film, including work connected with Spike Lee .
