Kansas City Sisters Cities Association https://www.kcsistercities.com Under the direction of Michael Thiemann, the award-winning youth jazz orchestra is known throughout Europe for its musicianship and dynamic performances. Featuring more than 30 talented high school students with a shared passion for jazz, the orchestra will begin its Kansas City appearances with the Mayor’s Concert on Monday, October 19, at 5:00 p.m. at the GEM Theater, 1615 E. 18th St. The concert will be followed by an invitation-only reception and a special visit to the Blue Room in the 18th & Vine Jazz District. On Tuesday, October 20, at 6:00 p.m., the orchestra will present a one-hour performance at the National WWI Museum and Memorial. The performance will include a tribute recognizing Käthe Kollwitz, the renowned German artist and namesake of the students’ school, whose powerful prints, drawings and sculptures explored the human impact of poverty, hunger, grief and war. The Kansas City series will conclude on Wednesday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m. at Staley High School with a collaborative concert bringing together the KKS Youth Jazz Orchestra and Staley High School student musicians under the direction of Dr. Meara Mitchell, Music Director.
