About
Musical Style: Jazz Miki Yamanaka presents this performance as part of her record release tour, featuring the exact band heard on the new album. Joining her on stage are her A-team rhythm section—bassist Tyrone Allen II and drummer Jimmy Macbride. The set will include many new original compositions along with earlier pieces that have been newly arranged for the recording. The album is scheduled for release on August 16. Because of how difficult it is to bring this exact lineup on the road, this performance may be one of the only chances—and possibly the last—to hear this band together live. Miki Yamanaka Japanese-born pianist Miki Yamanaka has called New York City home since 2012 and has quickly established herself as one of the leading pianists of her generation. Praised for her “light, expressive touch and solidly crafted, mainstream approach” (All About Jazz), Yamanaka has gained international recognition through her recordings as a leader, including her acclaimed album Chance (Cellar Music), featuring her New York rhythm section of Tyrone Allen II and Jimmy Macbride. She is also a prominent figure on the New York jazz scene through notable residencies at the West Village clubs Smalls and Mezzrow, and through her weekly livestream series Miki’s Mood, which showcases her deep knowledge of jazz standards alongside a rotating cast of top NYC musicians. As a sideman, Yamanaka has performed with leading artists including Antonio Hart, Roger Humphries, Jamile, and the Mingus Big Band. Mentored by pianist and organist Larry Goldings, she is also an accomplished organist herself and has received widespread critical praise, including consistently strong reviews from DownBeat. Known for her vibrant personality on and off the bandstand, Yamanaka connects easily with audiences around the world—often performing in beautifully crafted kimonos that celebrate her Japanese heritage.
