Janice Maxie Reid: A Night of Jazz, Soul & R&B Classics
Meyhouse Jazz San Ramon in San Ramon.
About
Meyhouse Jazz welcomes Janice Maxie Reid, a vocalist and keyboardist known for her remarkable four-octave vocal range and a musical style that moves naturally between jazz, soul, blues, gospel, and R&B. A recipient of the 2021 BAJABA Maisha Ya Kazi Bora Lifetime Achievement Award, Reid has also served on the faculty of the California Jazz Conservatory. Over a career spanning decades, she has performed on stages including the Hollywood Bowl, Davies Symphony Hall and Monterey Jazz Festival, and has shared stages with artists including Sting, George Duke, and Narada Michael Walden. For this Meyhouse appearance, Reid is joined by a veteran Bay Area rhythm section with deep roots in jazz, soul, and R&B. Guitarist Cedricke Dennis and drummer Tommie Bradford were part of the musical circle surrounding Ledisi’s early career, while bassist David Jones has performed with artists including Angela Bofill, Jimmy Witherspoon, and Narada Michael Walden. Together, the quartet explores the rich meeting point between jazz and classic soul—combining expressive vocals, deep grooves, sophisticated harmony, and room for improvisation. Expect an evening of familiar jazz, soul, and R&B traditions brought to life by musicians with decades of experience inside the music.
