Asal Naimi Quartet, vocal jazz standards with touches of Persian poetry Put the instrument in() The Asal Naimi Quartet is a Toronto based jazz group featuring Asal Naimi (vocal), Ruby Roussain (piano), Fiona Varty (bass), and Yuzi Sun (drums). The quartet performs a selection of jazz standards, exploring each piece through their own interpretation and improvisation. This set will also introduce a small glimpse into Asal’s Iranian background, with a couple of pieces that bring Persian poetry into the harmonic and improvisational language of jazz standards.
