Sponsored by Sandra Moll Drummer Sylvia Cuenca leads a standout NYC–Bay Area ensemble— Wallace Roney Jr ., Rico Jones, Matt Clark, Essiet Okon Essiet, and Will Martins —in a performance that brings together an ensemble of inter-generational powerhouse musicians. Cuenca’s career includes formative years with Joe Henderson and Clark Terry, in addition to playing with many of the greats including Billy Taylor, Etta Jones, Michael and Randy Brecker, George Cables, Kenny Barron, Gregory Porter, and Jazzmeia Horn. Her notable appearances include Black Girls Rock with Alicia Keys and the Whole Drum Truth project at Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. She was a semi-finalist in the 1992 Thelonious Monk International Drum Competition and received jazz performance grants from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1988 and 1991. Saxophonist Rico Jones and trumpet player Wallace Roney Jr. are leading artists of their younger generation, pushing musical boundaries while remaining grounded in traditional jazz roots. Pianist Matt Clark, bassist Essiet Okon Essiet, and drummer Cuenca bring decades of experience shaped by years on the road with jazz icons.
