Join the Harper College Jazz Ensemble for an exciting evening of big band jazz featuring Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Markus Howell as part of the inaugural Harper College Jazz Tour. The ensemble will feature 23 musicians, including 6 saxophones, 5 trombones, 5 trumpets, and 7 rhythm section musicians, bringing together the powerful sound and tradition of the modern jazz orchestra. The Music With Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Markus Howell joining the ensemble, the program will celebrate the rich tradition of the jazz big band while showcasing the energy of today’s jazz. The evening will feature music from the legendary libraries of Thad Jones, Count Basie, Frank Foster, Buddy Rich, and more, highlighting the swing, groove, precision, and improvisational spirit that define great big band jazz. Supporting the Future of Jazz All proceeds from the concert will support our guest artist and the Dorsey Legacy for Jazz Studies Fund. The fund helps provide financial support for jazz festivals, invitational events, student scholarships, guest artists, educational programs, and other opportunities that strengthen jazz education at Harper College.
