Wednesday Nights in August, Denver drummer Kevin Matthews leads his first trio residency at Nocturne, featuring Jack Dunlevie on piano and Patrick McDevitt on bass. For this deeply rhythmic series, Kevin explores a number of iconic drum grooves from Cissy Strut , St. Thomas and 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover , that have propelled the jazz, funk, rock and pop genres into the future. Kevin Matthews is a first call drummer in the Colorado music scene, with a career that includes appearances with the Colorado Symphony, acclaimed alt-country band Gasoline Lollipops, and Juno Award winning folk musician Jayme Stone. From his involvement with the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts (CCJA), Denver School of the Arts, Cherry Creek Academy, The Breckenridge Music Festival, The Gift of Jazz, Friends of Chamber Music and a deep private instruction roster, Kevin is also a well respected and prolific music educator in the region.
