Brooklyn based jazz guitarist David Blake was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada and is now developing a name for himself in New York’s vibrant jazz community. David has recently released two albums. “Fun House” (CellarLive) a quintet effort, features Vancouver greats Brad Turner, and Bernie Arai with appearances from Conrad Good and Thad Bailey-Mai. “Trio” David’s latest release features internationally renowned artists Ari Hoenig and Drew Gress. Currently, his working group includes pianist Dabin Ryu (South Korea) double bassist Warren Louie (USA) and drummer Jonas Esser (Germany). The four musicians met at an impromptu session in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and quickly developed an exciting musical connection. The quartet explores David’s original compositions, rooted in the post-bop tradition while incorporating elements of contemporary composition and free improvisation. David is an accomplished jazz educator who has taught private lessons at NYU (New York), while he was completing a Master’s degree and the VSO School of Music (Vancouver) where he taught for 6 years before moving to New York. His students have gone on to win prestigious scholarships and attend post secondary education at renowned music conservatories
